The Northumberland Solid Waste Commission (NSWC) was incorporated in 1994 with the direct responsibility for all aspects of solid waste management for the region. The volunteer Board is made up of ten members representing the residents of the five municipalities, four multiple local service districts and the First Nations that make up the region. The Northumberland region generates approximately 28,156 metric tonnes of waste each year, the majority of which ends up in a sanitary landfill. We must find ways to reduce this amount of waste going to landfill by reducing, reusing, and recycling. The Mighty Miramichi River flows through the heart of the Northumberland region. It is up to each and every one of us to protect the natural beauty that is our heritage
